Blogs Generate Buzz and Increase Search Engine Rankings

The reporters who covered the assasination of John F. Kennedy back in 1963 have written a book about that experience. To support the book, they created a blog, and what followed was exactly why you should probably have a blog, too: they generated buzz and they achieved excellent search engine ranking results. And it seems they did this in a very short time.

There’s another, more self-referential aspect about this event: having a blog during the most phenomenal rise in blogging is news and buzz itself. Look what happened: Reuters wrote an article that included them (and that otherwise appears to be a pretty biased low key criticism of blogging) which was then circulated by CNN and who know how many other news outlets. That means that when you start a business blog, it’s news in your local community or in your industry.

The blog is very clean and professional-looking, and it does one of the most important things that blogs can do: helps people connect with each other and helps the bloggers connect to their audience. Notice all the personal comments from people saying where they were when Kennedy was assinated and their reactions. Some of these comments are so powerful and moving that they have been recycled into full posts by the blog authors.

Websites are no longer one-way mirrors! These people who commented were a part of a significant moment in history, and now they’re a part of something special on the internet.

The reporters who wrote the book are going to sell a lot of books.
