I really like Bloglines, but there’s one irritating hiccup that’s driving me nuts. If I check a post to save and read later, it counts as an unread post in the sidebar. If I wait too long, that post drops below the threshold of posts per feed displayed, and I can no longer get to it. However, the numbers in the sidebar next to the feed still display the number of unread posts and the feed is in boldface type, even though there’s now no way for me to get to that old post and mark it as read. I know I could unsubscribe and then resubscribe to a feed, but I’d like Bloglines to work better than that. If a saved post drops below the threshold, then it should either no longer count as unread and set itself to zero unread posts, or there should be a way I can still get to it without having to remember what the heck it was or do a lot of work to retrieve it.
I love Bloglines’ simplicity and its ease of use. This is one situation where frames are the perfect answer to a thorny navigation issue that other readers have yet to solve to my satisfaction, including NewsGator’s web service and Google’s RSS reader. No other web-based service I’ve tried even comes close to matching Bloglines, but I wish they’d fix this one little irritation. I contacted them about it directly, and sent them a friendly message very similar in content to this post. I look forward to their response.
Has this been an issue for anyone else?
UPDATE: There is a way to fix it, and response I got from Bloglines was friendly and helpful:
Hello:
Thank you for writing to Bloglines.
This issue sometimes occurs when you have a particular feed marked to
‘Ignore’ any ‘Updated Items.’ You can edit these settings by clicking
the ‘Edit’ link above your subscription list, and then clicking the feed
in question. Change the ‘Updated Items’ option to ‘Display as New.’
Please let us know if this does not resolve the problem.
Thanks for the positive feedback. Enjoy using Bloglines!
Regards,
M.M.
