Embedded Flash Players Slow Down Your Blog

That’s right. At least the ones from Google Video do, and at a site called Google Video of the Day, those were the only ones I had on there. Archive pages actually crashed both Firefox and Internet Explorer.

Before Google Video made it possible to copy the player code, I would download a thumbnail from the video to my own computer, then use Blogger’s image upload to add it to GVOD. I paste in the video’s URL in place of the link destination to the larger image, and voila: thumbnail that takes you to Google Video to watch that video.

I liked the idea of the embedded players, especially because it kept visitors at my blog rather than sending them away, but they’re just too problematic. Over time, I’m actually going to go and delete them from older posts in the archives so they don’t crash anybody’s browser.
