Once we commit to something we want to appear consistent after making the decision. These societal pressures cause us to behave in ways that justify our earlier decision. The key to getting people to comply is commitment. Getting that initial commitment (taking a stand on an issue for example) makes us more likely to agree to requests that are in line with that prior commitment. Personal consistency is highly valued in society. Inconsistent people are viewed as confused and erratic. Being automatically consistent saves us from thinking and spending time dealing with the complexities of everyday life.
Right now, there is something extremely uncomfortable that you are avoiding that is getting in the way of your vision of success
This started a dangerous tendency toward counting blog comments, subscribers, and visitors i.e. (mostly meaningless) blog and web site statistics as an success indicator.
I suppose that this assumption is the same as assuming that if a good looking female consultant, writer, TV presenter or speaker includes their photograph as part of their promotional materials, that the primary service they are providing is related to the sex industry.
This is why companies and corporations have a hard time blogging, it’s all about online personality, conversly this is why a lot of blogs are boring.

This is one of my favorite sections of your blog Michael, and as always you deliver with some good ones. Andy Beard is truly a master in his own right and Christine has alot of material on her blog that wows me.
Good picks!!
Thank you, Bunk. Glad to know it’s appreciated.
Just been over to Christine’s blog for the first time, and it really is an amazing site. Love the content on this blog too, very good for finding tips AND new blogs!
Jack, I agree. Christine rocks!
I really like this idea. It is a great way to add something new to a blog that is different, but still on topic. It also can be done with any blog subject. Who doesn’t love a good quote?
I love the one by Lyndon Antcliff! I can’t agree more with that one. - Ashley
Thanks so much for the mention and the very kind compliments!
Hah, I love Lyndon’s quote as well!
andy’s comment has this unique dimension to it… coming to think of it, she’s so right, the observation is fully valid. yes andy, people fear to be labeled confused or erratic and hence more often than not stick to ideas they started off with. Though in person, they may themselves differ from the earlier ideologies accepted, they do not admit it in public and attempt to maintain a consistent theme of thought and dialogue..
Cheer’s to Andy, boy, i loved the viewpoint u put across for me to chew on…
