Michael Martine is Now Remarkablogger

by Michael Martine on October 10, 2007 · 16 comments

You may have noticed a slight change. Better Blogging with Michael Martine is now Remarkablogger. I kept thinking about Seth Godin’s speech about remarkableness, embodied by his “Purple Cow” concept. That has been a tremendous inspiration to me to really crank things up to the max in terms of originality and creativity and to stand out from the crowd. I kept asking myself what would a remarkable blog look like? The more the word remarkable ran through my mind, the closer it got to the word blogging, until they just became one word in my mind: Remarkablogger.

Although you don’t see it in use yet, I own the domain remarkablogger.com. For now, the blog stays at michaelmartine.com. Remarkablogger.com will forward to michaelmartine.com. Eventually, I plan to do the one thing I have always advised against: change domains over entirely to remarkablogger.com, and wean michaelmartine.com away from the blog consulting content for an ambitious and personal project. A new design is also coming in the future, hopefully before the end of the year.

I’ve never made a move like this before, so if anyone has some good advice based on experience, I’d love to hear from you.

By the way, here’s the video I found so inspiring:

Congrats on your new name and thoughts on why – I loved the Purple Cow. Great new name Michael and any Seth Godin inspiration is a winner in my book. :-) Cyndee Haydon

Good move! ‘michaelmartine.com’ was too personal for your (semi?)professional blog.

Can’t wait to see what the new design looks like!

Each time I revisit your blog, it’s improved once again. Basically it seems like ages when I reviewed you…
This is truly an advancement.

I LOVE the new name. Well done Michael.

Perhaps you should start signing your blog comments “The Remarkablogger – Michael Martine” to start branding yourself?

Well done!

Thank you, Phil, that means a lot to me. Transitioning the brand from Michael Martine to Remarkablogger will be somewhat of a long process. Thank you for the tip — I think it will help.

And thank you to EVERYONE for your kind words and encouragement! I know I’m doing the right thing, but it’s always nice when other people are on board with it! :D

Remarkablogger.com is a cool name I think it could also do double duty… remarks and remarkable.

Might I suggest that you add ‘remarkable’ to your subtitle?

Remarkablogger
Remarkable Blog Consulting & Coaching

I think it would make sure that people ‘get it’ plus it really nails the concept. Like a friend of mine that named his business ‘High Speed Printing’ and I said to him, “It’s hard to be slow when your name is High Speed Printing”.

My 2 cents.

If you have decided to make the move, the sooner the better. It’s going to cause some havoc and the longer you wait, the more it will do so. There are a lot of issues that will arise, but it can be done and you will eventually recover from it. In this case, I think the change of names will help brand you better and so it’s worthwhile, but I certainly don’t envy the move.

Remarkablogger is definitely a better name for your business.

anyway, using redirect with 301 should preserve your search ranking and page rank.

What a GREAT name – that is so brilliant! I’ve never heard such a creative name behind a blog. Well, I’m not surprised someone like you could come up with that because you seem to be willing to dive deep down within your creative and dare I say spiritual self to come up with such a great brand name!

Congrats!

Thanks, Christine. This is a different kind of change than what I’ve done before, because there’s a definite goal and a plan behind this. What I had done before was change because I didn’t have a goal or a plan and I was trying different things because nothing was sticking.
