It’s Official: I Can Rock the Blog SEO

This is the first page of Google search results as of today:

googleserpsblogconsulting.png

I am a very happy man, right now. I just need to say one thing: BOO-YAH!

Until today, I never claimed any SEO prowess. But making the front page of Google SERPs says something for me in a way no claims of my own ever could. So if you want blog SEO, well… I can do that. :)

PS - now I just have to rise to the #1 position.
PPS - this was done by following known best practices and advice — all “white hat” stuff (there are no secrets to this, I just read the best advice I could find and followed it).

    Woohoo! Congrats to that:)

For my personal blog, I’m on the first page for “Keeping your man happy”!

  2. Posted February 21, 2008 at 10:49 am | Permalink

    That’s good :-) btw, you’re 2nd in Google Italy ;-)

What about the site in 8th position? I think it has some problems, but it’s still in the SERPs

Congrats! When I made it on the first page of “corporate satire”, I felt the same joy! Let’s hope your ranking will bring in more traffic!

    “MICHAEL!”
    “MICHAEL!”
    “MICHAEL!”

Michael you are amazing, simply amazing. You have brilliantly implemented your knowledge of the web and blogging. You are providing a great service by being a blog consultant.

I have watched your illustrious career from the days of crazybox to GVOD, always checking back (good thing you branded your name) to learn new stuff and watching what you have created exponentially take effect.

Thank you for all the years of web lessons and everything you have taught me.

Oh Yeah! Its a great feeling being on page 1 in google. It always is and gives results right away. Let the traffic flow now

  6. Posted February 21, 2008 at 12:45 pm | Permalink

Congrats Michael, don’t it feel good! The best thing about being in the top 10, we also benefit from the perception a lot of people have that the best(top quality) results show up first.

If you don’t mind some unsolicited advice re your comment “now I just have to rise to the #1 position”…

I took a look at your home page and a few simple changes could help boost you even closer to the top. For example…

Right now your logo’s .png file is titled “remarkablogger-logo” and the title tag is “Remarkablogger logo”. I know a descriptive name makes it easier to keep track of files but from an SEO point of view, it doesn’t do much for people searching for the term “blog coaching”.

A good idea would be to change both of these(logo name & title tag) to “blog coaching” or to include your brand “Remarkablogger blog coaching”. You could do the same with any other images on your site.

I did this with various pics on my art website and over the past few years, managed to get my name into the top 10 of a ton of art related categories, often the # 1 or #2 position.

It’s pure white hat SEO and over time, could be the little extra thing that gets you from # 5 to # 1. Although #5 absolutely rocks! Congrats again…

Wow, congratulations - long may you stay there!

Cheers! I love hitting Google’s first page. Thanks to Google Canada, I can do it frequently!

I have yet to conquer the American Google, though. Bugger. :(

Congrats on your first page ranking. I’ve been working on improving my rankings for some time, but I think my keyword choices are the problem. The words are quite competitive.

Anyway, it’s great to see someone on the first page that actually provides a valuable site for the words they rank on. Hope that made sense…my point is that someone looking for blogging consulting will actually find it here! And now we know that consulting will include great SEO advice!

    Two things:

    1. That’s kick-ass Michael. Hope it turns into something big for you and you biz. I’m just satisfied that I went from 2 sunscribers to 10 this week.

    2. Not sure what the deal is, but my iPhone doesn’t like your RSS feed very much.

  12. Posted February 21, 2008 at 4:51 pm | Permalink

YEAH for Michael! I just published a post today showing that I rank number one on Google for “helping and enabling adult children”. Like you said, BOO-YAH! :)

  13. Posted February 21, 2008 at 5:12 pm | Permalink

Congratulations, Michael. There is quite a high level of competition for that phrase. I’m looking forward to see you number 1 and 2 :)

  14. Posted February 21, 2008 at 8:41 pm | Permalink

Congrats Michael, I know how you feel. It’s a great and satisfying feeling showing that we do something right. ;-)

Keep it up and before you know it you’ll be first.

How much traffic are you getting from that keyword and does it even convert well?

  16. Posted February 21, 2008 at 9:14 pm | Permalink

    @ everyone - Thanks! :D

@ David Deangelo - It converts quite well. In my contact form I ask people how they found me and many of them say Google. Because of blogging and my SEO activities, I am seeing a steady increase for visits for “blog coaching” and “blog consulting”. “Remarkablogger” is by far the biggest search keyword by which people find me.

  17. Posted February 21, 2008 at 9:16 pm | Permalink

@ Dave Conrey - I’ll be doing something about iPhone support very soon.

@ Jimmy - Nice to hear from you, man! :)

    Michael,

Congratulations that is a tough category, and you do brilliant work. I have learned a whole lot from you in the past month or so of finding your site and Subscribing, and Digging, and Stumbling, and etc. \grin/ I think many of your friends probably do this to help you. That is a small amount of currency to pay for a Professor of Blogology.

Here is a good one though. My category is narrow, “Upstate New York Genealogy” and there are over 46,000 serps for that term, hard to believe, but SOMEHOW, I made it to Number One! I wasn’t even trying, er sort of…

All the best to you and I will refrain from signing as unyg. \g/

  20. Posted February 22, 2008 at 9:40 am | Permalink

@ Lawton - Yes, we keep missing each other. I’ll keep an eye on my Skype contacts to see if you’re available.

@ Dick - Not as tough as some. Your keywords don’t have a lot of competition because of the tight focus, which is good. Your search traffic will be limited for the same reason, which isn’t necessarily bad if you’re converting well. Ranking well for a “lesser” keyword is also an edge into ranking well for a “greater” keyword down the road.

  21. Posted February 23, 2008 at 8:17 am | Permalink

Well, being the 1st is gonna be tough, but i wish you good luck :) BTW you are not in the top ten in france :/

  22. Posted February 24, 2008 at 5:16 pm | Permalink

Nice blog and congrats on your success. I just found your blog and find it truly amazing.
You must be on cloud nine, I sure would be. I see a lot of effort has gone it your blog so you definitely deserve your success.

Hi Micheal, do you accept link requests in your blogs? If so how much do you charge?

  25. Posted February 25, 2008 at 11:16 am | Permalink

@ Adam - I’m willing to consider it. Use the contact form to let me know what you’re interested in.

  26. Posted February 25, 2008 at 11:42 am | Permalink

@Michael - The newb in me coming out here, but what is a link request and why would you charge for it?

  27. Posted February 25, 2008 at 12:39 pm | Permalink

@ Dave C. - Without further information, I’d guess that what Adam has in mind are are paid links.

I’ll explain more about it in a post, because I think this is something everyone would benefit from knowing more about.

“PPS - this was done by following known best practices and advice — all “white hat” stuff (there are no secrets to this, I just read the best advice I could find and followed it).”

Is this something that can be found on your site or from googling it??

  29. Posted February 25, 2008 at 6:17 pm | Permalink

Congratz, I did a search for blog consulting in google.com and you appear to be in third place now. Im glad to see that your moving upwards and I bow for your SEO prowess :P.

Finally. It was time long ago. Google is just too slow!

  31. Posted February 26, 2008 at 9:04 am | Permalink

Congrats Michael , i can see your site on 5ht and 6th places.I think after few months your site will display in 1st and 2nd if u maintain quality.

  32. Posted February 27, 2008 at 10:18 am | Permalink

I noticed that you put the date in the permalink structure. Is that a good idea, or should I just use the post title?

  33. Posted February 27, 2008 at 11:16 am | Permalink

@ Eric - There are problems from not using date-based URLs. Some plugins and other scripts that rely on time-based information will not work, for example. I don’t see the advantages as significant enough to mess with it. So many blogs use it and yet they show up just fine in search results. It certainly doesn’t seem to be hurting me. ;)

  34. Posted March 18, 2008 at 10:45 am | Permalink

#6 with 129,000 inlinks. That is really impressive. I can’t imagine how long it would take me to get that many links!

  35. Posted March 18, 2008 at 11:13 am | Permalink

@ John - It took a few years and releasing free themes.

  36. Posted April 3, 2008 at 12:46 pm | Permalink

Michael - Congrats! Your hard work has definitely paid off. Persistence and good content are the keys. Looking forward to more excellent posts in the future.
