There are two ways to get your own domain and user blogger. Either host with Google, $10 / yr or setup blogger to ftp your posts to your own hosted server. In both of those cases you can have any domain you want. I agree commenting is still not as nice. Seth Godin, doesn't have comments turned on at all. You might think about why.
