In spite of rapid increases in computational power over the past few years, we still use keyboards and mice to interact with our computers. With the advent of tablet PCs and advances in handwriting recognition (Newton, we hardly knew ye), we now can combine computerization with something that to us feels more “natural.” Writing with [...]

Just a little something that popped into my head, today.
December 16, 2005 – 7:21 am
I’m putting this blog on hiatus for a while. Got some blog direction things to figure out and also I’m too busy with other projects.

Your blog is a mirror in which others see themselves and into which they project their own problems. My Google Video of the Day blog receives a fair amount of traffic and also comments. That old saying about the things we don’t like in other people are the things we don’t like in our selves [...]

This is a kick: Kaushal Sheth has modified my Wheatgrass theme for WordPress, and it looks great! Rock on.

I really like Bloglines, but there’s one irritating hiccup that’s driving me nuts. If I check a post to save and read later, it counts as an unread post in the sidebar. If I wait too long, that post drops below the threshold of posts per feed displayed, and I can no longer get to [...]

Just spotted this wonderful little bit from Jason Calacanis, founder of Weblogs, Inc.:
Your biggest critics are often your best source of advice. In fact, I always tell folks that your critics are basically giving you high-priced consulting for free. You should be thankful for their effort in helping make you a better person/company/service/etc.
One thing that’s [...]

Those who know me know I am a Tom Peters fan. From time to time, he conducts interviews with really outstanding people and posts them on his website. One of the newest interviews is with Eamonn Kelly, author of the book, Powerful Times. I came away from this interview deeply impressed by Eamonn’s astutely imagined [...]

David Wolfe over at Ageless Marketing has coined the term ironic management to describe the counterintuitive management style of what he calls firms of endearment. David’s one of the most astute people I’ve ever read on these issues; I suggest you head over there and start reading. There’s enough mind-blowing material to last you a [...]

I was all happy and doing the Snoopy dance about getting dashboarded, and seeing my traffic grow to around 700+ visits a day. Thank you to everyone who downloads either of my free WordPress themes.
But it gets better: my other blog, Google Video of the Day, has been added to the blogroll of the [...]

Earlier, in Part One, I wrote about belief, how it happens and how it’s expressed; and also about the existence of this man or men who has or have come to be known to us under the name Jesus Christ.
Belief is completely irrational and has more to do with conditioning and indoctrination than anything else, [...]

Shel and Robert will soon release what may arguably the most importnat book on blogging for 2006. Robert links to Shel talking about why blogs cannot be “integrated” into your marketing. Here’s the point that marketing/advertising/public relations types continue to misunderstand: Blogging isn’t marketing, advertising, or public relations. No. Blogging is not even some new [...]

I’ve been dashboarded! My free WordPress themes Wheatgrass and Sapphire have been linked to by Weblog Tools Collection, so they’re showing up on everyone’s WordPress dashboards when they log in to their admin pages. This puts a smile on my face!

Just want to remind everyone that my friend Bo has this awesome gig where he makes hand-printed shirts and sells them on his site, where he has a blog. The shirts are very unique and sport an eco-friendly message. The colors are brilliant. Bo is a really nice guy who deserves your business.

Found this here on project management. I teach general project management and have managed web projects over the years, and this is some of the most direct and best advice I’ve read—and it’s only one chapter from the book. The focus is clearly on IT-type projects, but it looks as though there’s good info here [...]

There’s a t-shirt or whatever that says, “I found Jesus: He was under the couch the whole time.” Right now I feel a little like that. All my adult life I’ve been railing at how ridiculous it is to believe in any religion. Globalism has truly shown us that our religion is other people’s mythology [...]

Yes, I am a Harry Potter nerd. I never go to movies unless it’s something deserving of the whole movie-going experience: Outrageous ticket prices, the excited press of the crowd, the smell of outrageously-priced popcorn, the thrill of midnight see-it-before-everyone-else-does movie premiers, ginormous screen, ear-splitting Dolby surround-sound, and stadium seating. And, [...]

I get MarketingSherpa’s email newsletter (a standing subscription I’ve had for a long time), and in this brave new world of blogs and the participatory culture, it’s obvious that the obvious isn’t so obvious to those who are educated, degreed, and entrenched in marketing. Anne writes about a band that releases over the internet home [...]

Say goodbye to menubars and crazy misbehavin’ toolbars. Office 12 has The Ribbon. One of the things they got totally right with it is how it scales to different monitor sizes/resolutions and different window sizes.

I originally wrote this as a comment on the First Thing Monday blog. I kinda took off with it and wrote a fairly lengthy comment. When I was previewing it, I thought it would make a decent stand-alone post, so I copied what I wrote, posted the comment, and then pasted the comment text here. [...]

Well, no, not really, he doesn’t. But he uses the name Michael as an example of a name so common that it makes for a poor unique branding/domain proposition. I know everybody on the internet links to Godin. Normally I wouldn’t, preferring to write original material. But he’s made such a good point here, one [...]

In the nineties, venture capitalists and Wall Street displayed what has come to be termed “irrational exuberance.” How naive, everyone said after the internet bubble burst, that we thought the internet was going to change everything.
Well, guess what? It did change everything. It’s still changing everything. It’s doing it more slowly than we first thought [...]

GVOD is a side blog of mine. I’ve posted a couple links in this blog to random Google videos, but on the whole, they’re a little off the mark and don’t fit in well with the rest of this blog. Tell your friends and coworkers. Especially your coworkers. These videos are exactly the kind of [...]
