@Dan - it is much more than that, and no blogging is necessary. It's about how to create a learning environment online that can truly teach people about a subject.

If you're on the fence, all I can say is that you won't be able to join while they're closed, and when they re-design and re-open, they'll be more expensive.

@Theresa - You get traffic and readers. You make new friends and network with people.

I don't do a blogroll, I link to sites in my posts. I don't think they hurt or help, but they do take up space. Might be better to have a dedicated links page.

Here are some posts I've written that may help you out:

Interesting - I've long debated trying to put a program together. It seems like a great way to monetize established blogs and provide a service to readers. Good luck on your program!

OK, new blogger here. Trying to get my feet wet and am overwhelmed by all the information. What will getting "diggs" or "stumbled upon" do for my blog? Do you already have a beginner level post on this that you can direct me to?

Also, on another blogging site, I read a lot about blogrolls. What is your opinion on those? Beneficial? Pros/cons? I have concerns about whether it will alienate some readers if they aren't part of my blogroll.

Any insights from those clearly more experienced in blogging?

Michael I read Made to Stick a few weeks ago and it was one of the best books I've read in a long time.

Funny you make the comparison to it being a book about blogging, since that was my first thought too.

I'm still trying to absorb all the lessons and will probably need a reread, but I plan on incorporating as much as I can from the book into my blog posts.

@Alice - Thanks and welcome! Success doesn't happen without failure, and the more you fail the more you succeed. Funny how people want to pretend like failure doesn't exist. If you're not failing, you're not trying hard enough!

I'm glad I stumbled onto your site! I love the realistic tone and the honesty about failure. As someone who is making some major changes in life and career, I get tired of the sites that never acknowledge the possibility of failure. That's not the way the world works.

I look for the best advice I can get, and I appreciate it when people admit their mistakes and what they learned from them. Believe me, I've made a couple of doozies already, and someday I may actually blog about them!! If someone hasn't experienced setbacks or failures, then I believe they haven't learned anything. And those folks have nothing to say that I want to hear.

Great site! I'm looking forward to reading more. :-)
